Using the tool you enter the USA state and choose a year between 1960 and 2012. You are then presented with a list of the top 100 baby names in that state. The below table shows the 100 most popular baby names for boy and girl babies born during the last 100 years in the United States, 1913-2012. The table shows the baby name and the number of occurrences of that baby name. These time-tested popular names were taken from a universe that includes 167,739,520 baby boy births and 164,665,490 baby girl births. So over the last 100 years James is the most popular boy baby name and Mary is the most popular girl baby name in the United States.
On the official website of the New South Wales Government there's a tool that allows you to explore the popular baby names in NSW over the past 100 years. By typing any name into the 'Type a name' field you see its ranking from 1900 to 2011. By type any letter into the 'Type a name' field, for example, type 'A' (as below) to see names starting with 'A', type 'Al' to see names starting with 'Al'. You can then hover over the visualization and click a name for more information. Blue is for boys and pink is for girls.
