If you are interested in baby names in England and Wales in the UK, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has a neat interactive tool on their official website. Search by boys or girls top 100 baby names and see how each name's rank has changed on the previous year, or see how each name's rank has changed in 10 years. It shows that Amelia was the top ranked name in 2012 and 2011. However, if you look at the 10 year change Amelia was ranked at 25 in 2002. The USA Social Security Administration official website has a really powerful tool that will show you the popularity of any name you enter. It shows the ranking of the name for 14 years. Rank 1 is the most popular, rank 2 is the next most popular, and so forth. Baby name data are from Social Security card applications for births that occurred in the United States. When I entered my name "Daniel", this was the result: This is the result when I entered "Jacob": Jacob has been the top boy baby name in the United States for the past 14 years, amazing! Try the tool for yourself: http://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/babyname.cgi
Well I am a little surprise that the USA and UK top 10 lists are not more similar, especially with boy baby names. I have bold typed the names that appear in both top 10 lists. Girls share 5 names in the top 10, but boys only share 2 names in the top 10. Lets wait to see if things change in 2013.
